So much has happened that it might take a while to catch up. So here are a few things in no particular order…
Last November, we opened our cellar door for free tastings, glass of wine on the deck, bottle sales or just a chat. Open from Wed-Sat 10am-4pm, we celebrated by putting up a new sign at the gate. If you are in the area, please call in to see us at 373 Colebrook Rd, Richmond.
We did have a very unexpected visitor earlier in the year. While Tassie has more than its fair share of exotic creatures, this was not something we expected to see looking over the back fence. Oscar, as he became known, had taken a short vacation from Zoo Doo and ended up staying for a week.
Wine shows are often a cause for heated discussion in the wine industry. On one hand, medals can be a powerful marketing tool, a tick of confidence for our customers and a way of gaining endorsement from our winemaker peers and media. On the other hand, the results can be so varied from show to show that it can be confusing, both for you and for us, as to whether we are doing a good job or not.
We felt the Melbourne International Wine Competition was a bit different in that it was judged by wine buyers: people whose job it is to select wines that their customers will enjoy. Therefore we were rapt that in our very first attempt, we not only landed gold for our NV Sparkling and for the 2015 Estate Pinot, but also were awarded Tasmanian Winery of the Year. Very humbling considering the incredible quality of Tassie wines but incredible reward for the team after the huge effort of the last couple of years.
